Hi! I’m Syr! You can read more about me and how I work here. TL:DR: I’ve been facilitating imaginative supportive space for writers, artists, and musicians for ten years. I’ve also produced several immersive experiences and been the co-director of a theater company. I believe that art thrives in delight, community, and joy. Mondays we will gather virtually on zoom. Our time together will consist of a group check in followed by strategies and writing prompts to help inspire writing the week ahead. Then we will write. Then we will cheer for one another as we embark on the new week. Then we will do it again. This is a generative writing space, not a critique group, but those who wish to exchange pages can do that too!

YES! These two 30 min sessions are focused time for live-plotting, strategizing, celebrating wins, working out plot tangles, pep talks, character development, helping with stuck areas or whatever else is needed. YES! We will have at least one weekly 2 hour write-in at the time that works best for everyone (TBD depending on group). That’s just enough time for a quick hello, a 50 minute writing sprint, a stretch break, another 50 minute sprint, and a check out. These will be held via zoom, and are optional, but highly recommended so that no matter what you KNOW there is writing time ahead in the week.

I am not associated with NaNoWriMo (but I love them!).

This is an additional accountability/generative writing space with a carefully selected group of writers who wish for community, inspiration, strategy sessions, resources, and encouragement.

While NaNoWriMo is focused on word count, in this space, we will prioritize joy, inspiration, and delight. And yes, we can also celebrate word count!

WHOLE PEOPLE WELCOME. Accessibility and communication around access needs is important to me. Please get in touch if I can answer any questions or make this class a more welcoming space for you.

Sessions will be held on zoom. Everyone can participate in any way they need, camera on/off, vocal or quiet, and everyone can change their minds. No one is required to speak or share. Every session begins with an access needs and pronouns go-round, followed by a creative check in like “where is it raining in your novel?”
Parents and caregivers are very welcome.

FINANCIAL ACCESSIBILITY. After a certain enrollment, I will open up one 1/2 price spot and one $0 spot. If you need one of those, please get in touch.

PROTECTING CREATIVE SPACE: I believe that art spaces can reflect the joy and collective liberation we want to see in the world. At the top of each class, we will agree to certain norms of care and community we will create together. Anyone who does not follow those norms will be called in for a chat, and may be asked to leave this session if we can’t come to an agreement. We have a no-critique rule in place.

You are absolutely WELCOME. If you are not sure what your novel is, we’ll make sure to have our 1:1 session earlier, so we can get you going! The only pre-requisite is: “this sounds fun (or scary, or scary-fun). I want to write my (***)ING novel.”
